SML Diversity and Equal Opportunities Training Course
This one day course for up to 15 enables participants to:
- Be aware of their organization’s Diversity and Equal Opportunities policies and procedures and to understand their implications in the workplace
- Picture what Diversity is and understand the difference between Diversity and Equal Opportunities
- Take ownership of the principles of Equal Opportunity and Diversity
- Be committed to changing the organizational culture to valuing diversity
- Know how to deal with discrimination and/or bullying/harassment at work
- Understand cultural differences
This workshop is not only about informing participants about Equal Opportunities and Diversity issues, it’s also about influencing attitudes and building skills. For this reason, a considerable amount of time is given to discussion in pairs and small groups. The group work is focused, for example, on ‘the business case’ and the ‘social /ethical’ issues, their own experiences of feeling different from the rest of a group and how it affected their behaviour, deliberating over discrimination case studies which reached tribunals, ‘what would you do if…?’ case studies on harassment and bullying.
Two films, ‘A tale of O’ and ‘a Class Divided’ are recommended.
